Five Pillars of Sojourner Truth Academy

Sojourner Truth Academy will empower and equip students to become scholar-leaders using college preparation and social justice activism as vehicles for the rebirth and strengthening of their own community.

• Accountability - We are responsible for our own actions and the implications of our attitude and actions on those around us. We are accountable for the success of the team, for the achievement of our school and for the strength of our community.
  
  
• Respect – In respecting others, we respect ourselves; we go beyond tolerance and reside in acceptance. We make choices that reflect our beliefs and our habits reflect our worth. We practice kindness and empathy. We seek to understand the ideas and experiences of others. To get respect we must give it. Equity!
  
  
• Pride – We hold our heads up high because our collective actions translate into a better future for the communities we lead. We are proud of who we are, where we come from and the choices we make.
  
  
• Unity – When one of us celebrates, we all celebrate. When one of us struggles, we all collaborate to find solutions. For one to be great, we must all be great. Only by embracing and empowering others can we accomplish our goals for our school and the greater community. The strength of the individual is the team, the strength of the team is the individual.
  
  
• Perseverance- Every obstacle is a chance to grow. Nothing can hold us back but ourselves. We refuse to be held back or held down; we will persevere to be successful leaders in our community. When we leave Sojourner Truth Academy, we will not be the same people we were when we arrived. Every experience we share will be a chance to become smarter, stronger, and better than we were.
